Curriculum

Curriculum

Drumnigh Montessori Primary School provides for the full education of the child, using the Montessori method, to deliver the National Primary Curriculum. There are five main areas in the prepared environments within Montessori which include: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Arithmetic and Culture. The Montessori materials used and the exercises accomplished are mapped onto the learning competencies described within the National Primary Framework, Aistear and Síolta, so that the National Curriculum is delivered in entirety.

Extra-Curricular Activities

We currently facilitate a number of extra-curricular activities in the school, which take place directly after school at 2pm. You may obtain pricing information from the Office Manager if you are interested in enrolling your child in one of the activities.

Yoga with Yoga Sphere

Ms Aga teaches Yoga every Wednesday at 2.10 pm. Classes are specifically designed to engage children through the use of imagination, adventures, storytelling, breath and relaxation techniques. Yoga teaches children of all ages how to relax and listen to their body, improving their concentration and self-esteem to support them with their everyday challenges.

Music with Rainbow Music

Ms Niamh teaches music to the children on Thursday at 2pm. Rainbow Music For Kids classes are singing based music classes. The children explore singing voice through fun games, songs, percussive instruments and dances. They also begin to name the beat and perform it in songs. Once this is established they are introduced to the rhythm and solfa (do, ray, mi). At Rainbow Music for Kids, music is represented in a pure and clean way. We work with care to develop listening skills and vocal skills, exploring our full vocal range.

After School Club

Drumnigh Montessori operates an after school club every day from 12-2pm.* The after school club is for children who are not participating in extra tuition. The children have 45 minutes free play outdoors followed by themed activities, which change daily. The club is run by Ms. Fiona, Ms, Clare, Ms. Mariana and Ms Sandra.

Parents can opt in and out of Afternoon club depending on their circumstances and there is a daily sign up sheet outside your child’s class. Please provide a packed lunch for your child.

At present the After School Club follows the following schedule:

Monday: Nature walk, followed by group discussion.

Tuesday: Music class with children using class instruments

Wednesday: PE in the sports hall

Thursday: Arts and Crafts

Friday: Structured free play

*Every first Monday of the month, the school closes at 12pm for staff meetings.

Montessori Maths and Literacy Clubs for children aged 5-8.

The Directresses run a Maths Club every Thursday from 3-4pm. Montessori developed a unique and very successful method for teaching maths that uses concrete materials to prepare for abstract concepts. The school offers a maths club to past pupils and other children so they can continue to learn and appreciate maths the Montessori way. The club nurtures and develops the children’s love of maths!

The Directresses also offer a reading and writing club on Tuesdays for the same age group.
